Lady of the Lake
This is the first trial run lighter of our new silhouette series (Pocket version). The wood used is Chestnut, which allows for wonderful contrast for artwork. Our subject on this one is “Lady of the Lake”.
“A silhouette is an outline drawing, uniformly filled in with black, like a shadow. The art itself dates back to the Stone Age, and is evident in Limestone – cave murals in France and Spain.” These Paleolithic designs are remarkably accurate depictions of the natural world, and very interesting because these drawings appear at the same time Stone Age man is to use chipped stone implements and discovers fire.

The End of the Trail

A lone warrior and his horse returning home from battle, both weary from traveling in a blinding snow storm, are almost ready to drop from exhaustion. Then the warrior catches a glimpse of his village through the blowing snow and his thoughts turn to seeing his family, a time of rest and healing his wounds. This is Native American Indian Art, Artist James Earle Fraser (1876-1953).
